You are well aware that Jute is an important natural fibre for the world. There is a strong commitment from the global community to support the Golden Fibre for its environmental friendliness. It is high time that we take adequate steps to promote this natural fibre and the use of its products.
The advantages of natural fibres are well known. They are biodegradable, eco-friendly, reusable, annually obtainable and could be blended with other fibres to produce better products. In Bangladesh, jute is a vital commodity affecting the livelihood of millions of farmers and a large number of other dependents on jute. The well-being of the jute industry, therefore, is critical both to the environment and the people. This is the reason that the jute industry in the country is going through a process of restructuring, making the transition from predominantly public sector led industry to a competitive and diversified jute industry.
Our main objective is to facilitate the jute sector in order to attain and sustain an eminent global standing in jute and various jute products and carve a special niche for ourselves in jute manufacture, production and export.
I extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all our valued national and international clients, partners and associates for clearly indicating their interest in the growth, development and promotion of the jute sector. With their help, support and guidance we will be able to bring about a new direction in the development of the international jute commodity.
Our primary objective for the International Year of Natural Fibres, 2009 is to raise the profile of jute by emphasising its natural and environmental attributes. We will actively participate through various activities and observe this day nationally and internationally. Furthermore, our organisation will always play an active and important role to promote jute as the 'fibre for the future'.
