The advantages of natural fibres are well known. They are biodegradable, eco-friendly, reusable, annually obtainable and could be blended with other fibres to produce better products. In Bangladesh, jute is a vital commodity affecting the livelihood of millions of farmers and a large number of other dependents on jute. The well-being of the jute industry, therefore, is critical both to the environment and the people. This is the reason that the jute industry in the country is going through a process of restructuring, making the transition from predominantly public sector led industry to a competitive and diversified jute industry. |
